Tips for A Healthy Easter and Passover

Why is this year different from all other years? Because this year, you have ME to help you avoid Passover-eating and becoming a “basket” case of Easter candy! Try these tips:

Passover Wellbeing

• Before your Seder this year, commit to having only one matzah ball in your chicken soup. (Or even healthier, just drink the broth!)

• Go easy on the wine; it’s heavy on sugar, sulfates and histamines.

• Let the matzah stay hidden! There’s no polite way to say this, so I’ll just say it: matzah is constipating. The less you eat, the more regular you’ll be. To combat the “matzah bloat,” drink plenty of water and eat a salad or other green with each meal.

* And did you know that Maneschewitz makes organic spelt matzah? Might be worth a try!

Easter Wellbeing

• Have a healthy breakfast before the Easter Brunch, to help you avoid overindulging. Starting your day doing something good for yourself and your body often keeps you on track. Try a green smoothie!

• If you really have to buy Easter candy for your kids or nephews/nieces, wait to purchase until as close to Easter Sunday as possible. Then, buy the kind you don’t like and won’t be tempted to eat. You can also ask your spouse to hide it from you if you feel that it will be too much of a temptation!

• How about a basket of non-food treats this year? Stickers, toy cars, beaded jewelry, art supplies, gift cards, homemade coupons are just a few simple ideas.
