Why Flaxseed Is A Superfood? The Facts You Must Know.

Flaxseed is packed with brain-boosting proteins and disease-fighting Omega-3s — “good” fats such as Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) — which help build neurons and support the heath of the area surrounding the brain. Three tablespoons of flaxseed have as much Omega-3 as a pound of fish! Studies show that eating two to three tablespoons of flaxseed a day can:

• Help protect against memory loss and depression, and reduce “brain fog”

• Lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels up to 65 percent

• Stabilize blood sugar

• Help fight breast, ovarian and prostate cancer

• Reduce inflammation

I particularly love flaxseed in the morning, because it is an excellent source of fiber (three tablespoons have half the recommended daily requirement). It’s also rich in calcium, potassium, and magnesium. The best way to absorb all these nutrients is to grind flaxseeds in a blender or coffee grinder (make sure the grinder is not one you use for coffee!) You can also purchase ground flaxseed, which is what I do. Then you can add it to virtually any meal, especially breakfast favorites — blend with your protein shake, sprinkle on top of oatmeal, mix them into baked goods. To get all of the brain-boosting benefits, eat two to three tablespoons of flaxseed a day.

Many people tell me that they skip breakfast, thinking it will help them lose weight. But then they are starving by 11 a.m. and start snacking before lunch right up until dinner. When my clients start their day with a healthy smoothie or one of the recipes below, it actually helps them LOSE weight and have more energy all day.
